If you are an AK47 collector, why waste the ammo can when you go shooting? Here's how we open theammocan from the back and keep the cool can for display with the ammo collection
How to bust open an ammo can from the back An overview with pictures
When I buy these cool military surplus ammo cans, I like to open them from the back so I can keep the can looking new. I hang them in the gun room. usually they are marked differently so I've collected quite a few types and countries. Usually for the AK47, AK74 or the Mosin Nagant
It's fairly easy, I'll let the pictures do the talking. Cut a line around the perimeter of the can. I stop before getting all the way through to keep heat down and not risk hurting any ammo.
I don't stay in any place too long, and don't cut too deep too quickly, to help keep heat down
Once I'm most of the way through the steel, I open the cut with a scraper (thicker than a putty knife) which makes quick work of the thin steel
In this can only three packs of ammo were affected, the paper under the cut scorched a bit
