We went through a box of holsters at a local gun shop to see the mix of styles and materials. There were 12 holsters in the box; 5 leather, 4 nylon, 2 polymer, and 1 canvas. One holster is a police duty style, two are WWII era military pistol holsters, one is a modern military drop leg holster, four are CCW style, three are general purpose and one is a cowboy style for a single action revolver
This Uncle Mikes Sidekick is a standard nylon holster. It is good for general protection in a range bag or for outside the waistband carry. Typically these holsters are not used for CCW because they don't hold the pistol tight enough for daily carry.
This is a Bianchi leather holster for the 1911. This holster is worn outside the waist on a sturdy belt. The Bianchi 1911 holster holds the pistol at a forward angle (cant). A very well made holster and a very secure way to carry a 1911
A Fobus C-21 paddle holster for the 1911. This holster is great for CCW carry, shooting at the range or training classes. The major advantage of these holsters is the paddle which lets you remove the gun and holster without removing your belt. This model has an adjustment so the angle to the belt can be set as the wearer likes it.
A Blackhawk Drop Leg holster for the 1911. This holster is designed for military and police operators who wear armor or chest rigs with ammo and supplies. This drop leg holster allows the pistol to be worn on the thigh not the waist so the pistol is more easily accessible in a vehicle and so that armor does not interfere with drawing the pistol.
There are two straps to keep the pistol securely on the leg. An extra velcro strap acts as a lock to keep the pistol in the holster. There is also a spare magazine pouch on the front of the Blackhawk drop leg holster.
More photos of the police, military and cowboy holsters that were also in the box. The black leather military flap style holster looks like it's for a Browning Hi-Power. The Canvas flap holster might be for a Webley revolver. The leather Inside the waistband (IWB) holster looks like it is for a Sig model
